Suggested Itinerary for Nostalgic Tyrolean Trains

Day 1 - Travel via your preferred short sea crossing to Aachen / Liège area for your overnight stay.

Day 2 - Continue to Austria, arriving at the Lifthotel in Kirchberg where you will be greeted with a welcome drink, followed by dinner.

Day 3 - At leisure in resort, time to relax and explore your new surroundings.

Day 4 - Gisela Nostalgic Train
Take train number from Kitzbühel to Zell am See and revive the romance of bygone times. This train was initially named after the eldest daughter of the Emperor Franz Joseph, when the "Royal Railway" was founded in 1875. Stop for a coffee and cake (included) at Lake Zell before returning to Kirchberg.

Day 5 - Achensee Cog Railway / Lake Achen
This morning is at leisure in your resort, followed by a journey down the Inn Valley to Jenbach where you join the original Achenseebahn Cog Railway, dating back to 1889. These original steam engines are among the oldest in the world to still be used as public transport. The train winds its way up above the Inn Valley, affording spectacular views before arriving at Achensee, the largest lake in the Tyrol. Perhaps take a boat cruise or simply stroll by the lake. On the return journey to Kirchberg, visit Rattenberg, the oldest town in the Tyrol, now famous for its crystal and glass workshops. Return to Kirchberg and following dinner in your hotel, join the coach to a nearby resort for an evening of entertainment at a "Tyrolean Folklore Evening" with a chance to learn how to yodel!

Day 6 - Salzburg
Enjoy a full day excursion to Mozart’s birthplace. We have included a guided walk, which will lead you through the medieval centre. Visit the charming shopping district of the “Getreidegasse” where the ironwork shop signs evoke an atmosphere of centuries past. There will be free time for shopping and sightseeing before returning to Kirchberg for dinner at the hotel.

Day 7 - The Ziller Valley Steam Train and Mayrhofen
On July 31st, 1902 this wonderful narrow gauge steam train made its first journey from Jenbach to Mayrhofen. It was almost closed in 1965 to make way for a new road, which was being constructed but was saved and today continues to take passengers along the Ziller Valley. Your journey is from Fügen to Mayrhofen, where there will be free time for lunch and to wander around this well-known resort.

Day 8 - Time to depart your Austrian resort this morning to the Aachen / Liège area for your overnight stay.

Day 9 - Complete the journey to the UK.
