This short break is based on the outskirts of Manchester and includes visits to the East Lancashire Railway, which runs through part of the picturesque Irwell Valley giving breathtaking views of the West Pennine Moors. The journey starts in Bury and takes you north to Rawtenstall, you will then have some free time to explore the town where on a Saturday there is a traditional market. Also included is a visit to the Standedge Visitor Centre, which re-opened in the summer of 2006 and where you take a short return trip on the glass topped boat through the longest, highest and deepest canal in Britain.
