Suggested Itinerary for Breaks in the Lakes

Day 1 - Travel to the Lake District and the hotel which is to be the base for this holiday.

Day 2 - Dove Cottage & Bowness on Windermere
Today has been set aside for a visit to Dove Cottage, the home of William Wordsworth from 1799 to 1808, the years of his supreme work as a poet. The cottage is located in the hamlet of Town End, Grasmere, a place and a landscape at the centre of the English Lake District where the poet lived, wrote and found inspiration. Visitors are offered a guided tour of the poet's home, a beautiful example of a Lake District cottage. The fascinating tour tells the story of Wordsworth, his family, friends and of life in the Lake District two hundred years ago. On the return journey to the hotel make a stop at Bowness on Windermere, set on the banks of Lake Windermere this charming town offers an abundance of shops & cafes and of course spectacular scenery.

Day 3 - Dalemain House & Gardens
A full days excursion to the northern edge of Ullswater and your visit to Dalemain House & Gardens, which are a real treasure, behind its Georgian facade, a wealth of Tudor and Mediaeval rooms and buildings are on view. The Old Hall was added in the 14th century and later, in the 16th century two projecting wings were added creating a typical Elizabethan manor house. Today the house is still lived in by the Hasell-McCosh family so is well kept in its original style with the occasional modern-day photograph strategically placed.

Day 4 - Hill Top at Ambleside & the Steam Yacht Gondola
Located at Hill Top, near the village of Sawrey is the charming home of Beatrix Potter, where you quite literally step back in time and experience the warmth and charm present in every room as you are suddenly transported into the pages of her famous books. The house gets very busy during the summer months, but is well worth the visit. From here you make the short journey on to Coniston Water for your ride on the Steam Yacht Gondola, an unforgettable experience, with its grand Victorian elegance and the plush interior. You can admire the excellent views that can be seen on your journey to Brantwood the home of John Ruskin from 1872 to 1900.

Day 5 - Depart after breakfast for the return journey home.
