The Seaside & elegant charm of Eastbourne
Designed by the Duke of Devonshire, Eastbourne
has, since the early 18th century maintained its elegant charm with parks
and gardens with the town itself dominated by impressive floral displays
along its promenades. Among the town’s many fine parks are the
Carpet Gardens, Hampden Park (about two miles inland) and the Italian
Gardens at the foot of Beachy Head, west of the town. There are carnival
and band shows along with seasonal entertainment. This charming dignified
resort usually has more hours of sunshine than most others - earning
itself the title “suntrap of the south”.
Within easy reach
is the ancient and picturesque town of Rye, Stand Key with its brick
and timber warehouses which are the only reminders of the days when
it was one of the most important channel ports. Royal Tunbridge Wells
makes a great day out too, where you can visit the Pantiles, an elegant
shopping area laid out in the 17th century.
