Suggested Itinerary for Heidelberg and the Wine Route

Day 1 - Travel via short sea crossing to Belgium for your overnight hotel on half board.

Day 2 - Neustadt
After breakfast, continue through Germany and arrive in the picturesque town of Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, which is nestled amongst a sea of hillside vineyards.

Day 3 - Heidelberg
Travel to the scenic, university town of Heidelberg this morning. Stroll through the historic, bustling town centre but also relax by the riverside with a glass of local wine. The highlight of Heidelberg has to be the famous castle and perhaps stroll around the gardens or explore the castle itself with its Great Vat and German Pharmacy Museum. The highlight of the day is your included boat cruise along the Neckar when you will learn about this fabulous city and spot the homes of celebrities who have settled around Heidelberg.

Day 4 - German Wine Route
Germany’s wine is not all about Hock and Liebfraumilch! Enjoy a day getting to know German wine in the country’s second largest wine growing region. Visit the town of Bad Dürkheim and marvel at the world’s largest wine barrel, which can hold an astonishing 1.7 million litres of wine! We have also included a horse and carriage ride through the vineyards finishing at the cellar, where you will enjoy a tasting of their produce.

Day 5 - Schwetzingen & Speyer
Enjoy a relaxing morning in Schwetzingen, visiting the Baroque Palace and take a leisurely walk around the palace gardens, arguably some of the most beautiful in Europe. After lunch, travel the short distance to Speyer. The town’s UNESCO listed cathedral dominates the market square, but if you prefer a more modern attraction then head to the Sealife Centre or the Technology Museum.

Day 6 - Depart your hotel and this wine region, travelling to your overnight hotel in Belgium.

Day 7 - Complete the journey home to the UK via short sea crossing from Calais.
