Day 1 - Travel via short sea crossing to your first overnight stay, in Belgium
Day 2 - Continue to Eastern Germany for your second overnight stay.
Day 3 - Sopot
Arrive in Sopot late this afternoon. Relax in your beautiful
five star hotel, situated in the centre of town and on the beachfront. There
are promenades and plenty of bars, shops and restaurants in this exclusive
resort town. Enjoy dinner in regal surroundings in your hotel restaurant.
Day
4 - Gdansk
Visit Gdansk today, starting with a short city tour visiting the Old
Town and later Westeplatte where WWII actually broke out, being the first German
invasion point. Also take a look at the shipyards where the solidarity movement
began, which eventually led to the fall of communism in Central Europe. This
afternoon is free for souvenir shopping. Why not pick up a bargain and buy
some amber jewellery from one of the many specialist shops?
Day 5 - Malbork Castle & Oliwa
Cathedral
After breakfast this morning, drive to Malbork Castle, built around
1380, the largest Teutonic castle in the country. The Second World War also
affected everyday life at the castle and on 1st May 1933 the flag of the Third
Reich was hoisted above the principal tower. The fortress became a frequent
venue for receptions attended by high-ranking Nazi party officials. Drive back
via the Oliwa Cathedral first erected as a Cistercian shrine back in the 13th
century. It is most famous for its huge, highly decorated pipe organ, which
comprises over 7,000 pipes.
Day 6 - Warsaw
Depart elegant Sopot after breakfast
and drive to UNESCO listed Torun, one of Poland’s treasures. We have
included a guided walk and a visit to the Saltworks in Ciechocinek. Continue
to Warsaw, arriving at your hotel late afternoon. Check in to the Polonia Palace,
your home for the next few days, right in the centre of town.
Day 7 - Warsaw
This
morning enjoy a guided city tour of Warsaw including the Old Town, Lazienki
Palace, Chopin monument and the former Jewish quarter. This afternoon is
free for everyone to discover the town independently.
Day 8 - Zelazowa Wola, Chopin
This morning is at leisure, followed by an afternoon excursion to the small
town of Zelazowa Wola to visit Chopin's home and gardens. A few months
after his birth, the family moved to Warsaw, but Chopin continued to visit
the town throughout his youth. You will visit the manor, now a museum, where
in 1810 Frederick Chopin was born.
Day 9 - Depart Warsaw and travel to your first return overnight stay in East Germany.
Day 10 - Continue to your second overnight stay, in Belgium.
Day 11 - Travel homeward via short sea crossing from Calais.
