Day 1 - Travel via your preferred short sea crossing to Belgium arriving at the Chateau du Lac late afternoon / early evening.
Day 2 - Ardennes
Take a
trip into the Ardennes, visiting the lovely Annevoie water gardens followed
by an afternoon in Dinant beautifully situated on the River Meuse. Dominating
the city is the mighty citadel, built in the 11th century to overlook and control
the Meuse valley. Visit this fortress either by steep cable car ride or the
420-step stairway carved into the rock. Another must see is the bronze onion
domed cathedral of Notre Dame, built as a Romanesque church at the end of the
12th century.
Day 3 - Waterloo & Brussels
Visit Waterloo this morning, including
the Wellington museum, the panorama of the battle of Waterloo, and the famous
lion monument, located on a manmade hill, overlooking the battlefields and
beyond. The lion is 28 tonnes of iron and it took 20 horses to drag to the
top of the hill. It is possible to book a guide for this visit, which would
also take in a stop in the battlefields. Ask Leisure Breaks for details. Continue
to Brussels, where visitors should start at the impressive Grand Place and
then wander the cobbled alleyways full of fashionable sidewalk restaurants
and cafés. Admire the
impressive art deco architecture and perhaps buy some chocolate or lace from
one of the many specialist shops.
Day 4 - Drive to Calais for your return short sea crossing and complete the journey home.
