Day 1 - Edinburgh
Travel to Edinburgh in time to enjoy some free time in the
strikingly attractive capital of Scotland, with its superb sightseeing, historic
buildings, galleries, shops and restaurants before checking in for dinner and
overnight.
Day 2 - Inverness
Following breakfast, start the journey north from
Edinburgh through Glen Coe, one of Scotland’s most famous glens with
its awe inspiring scenery and on to Fort William. Journey on passing Loch
Lochy, Loch Oich and finally Loch Ness, before arriving in Inverness, located
on the shores of the Moray Firth. You will find that everything you need
is within easy walking distance of the city centre where pipers, jugglers
and fiddlers provide a welcome distraction from the serious business of holiday
shopping!
Day 3 - Baxters & Whisky Distillery
A full days excursion, first
heading to the Baxters Visitor centre, where in the Great Hall there is an
audio-visual presentation before the opportunity to sample some of their
products. You can also browse around the 'Old Shop' just as it was in Victorian
days. From here make the short journey on to Dufftown, home of the Glenfiddich
Distillery. Once again there is a film show to start the tour, which then
takes you through the very heart of the Glenfiddich operation. From the traditional
warehouses to the bottling hall and at the end of the visit you can enjoy
a wee dram of Glenfiddich in the malt barn before returning to the hotel
via Speybridge.
Day 4 - Inverewe Gardens
Another full day, travelling through
some spectacular scenery taking a break at Achnasheen and then on along the
shores of Loch Maree to Inverewe Garden, considered by many to be the premier
garden in Britain. Inverewe sits in a spectacular lochside setting and is
the realisation of one man’s
determination and taste for the exotic. This four star visitor attraction was
planned by Osgood Mackenzie to create a garden from windswept moorland, a garden
that simply must be seen!
Day 5 - Highland Folk Museum & Strathspey Steam Railway
The museum at Newtonmore is a new site, where whole buildings and their environment
have been lovingly and painstakingly reconstructed, according to the authentic
skills and technology of each period so that now you can actually enter the
World of the Highlander and experience walking through a number of 'time windows'
dating from the early 18th century Highland township to the mid-20th century
working croft. From here you make the journey to Aviemore for a journey on
the Strathspey Steam railway, a journey that takes you north through the spectacular
scenery of the Cairngorms National Park to re-join the coach at Broomhill.
Day 6 - Pitlochry
Depart after breakfast and make your way through the Spey
Valley with its stunning scenery as you drive over the Drumochter Pass. We
also suggest a stop in the popular Victorian resort of Pitlochry, which nestles
on the banks of the River Tummel before continuing the journey home.
